House Raffle Alert: Marin Dream House Raffle

I’ve read the rules for many a house raffle this month, but the Marin Dream House Raffle held by Community Action Marin is the only one I’ve found that offers cash to the Grand Prize winner as an alternative to the house—$1.6 million dollars.

Of course a large chunk of that cash prize will go to Federal and state taxes, but there won’t be any of the closing costs, property taxes, and ongoing expenses that raise doubts about whether we can afford to win a house raffle.

Unfortunately, the three Marin Dream House Raffle Early Bird drawings have all passed, with hundreds of thousands of dollars distributed to folks who bought their tickets in the first few months of the raffle [details here...], but there’s still a month to buy raffle tickets for the house (or $1.6 million) and hundreds of cash prizes ranging from $300 to $25,000 [details here...].

In addition to the Early Bird and main Dream House raffle drawings, there are two separate, additional Bonus drawings for folks who buy more than one house raffle ticket and folks who refer others that buy tickets [details...].

If Community Action Marin meets their house raffle ticket sales goal (and they did last year), odds in winning a cash prize are 1:100. To put that in perspective, the odds of winning a local lottery Pick 3 are only 1:1000.

IMPORTANT: House raffle tickets can only be purchased by phone, mail, and fax, so don’t wait until the last minute to buy. Community Action Marin does accept major credit cards but there are no online ticket sales.
